Issue

In the Enterprise Console the following warning is shown against a computer running Windows 8:

0000006d Restart needed for updates to take effect

Rebooting the computer does not clear the alert.

Also: Under the Sophos folder you see a file called 'sophos_detoured.dll.stf00'.

Cause

The 'fast boot' option is enabled and the computer has not been 'restarted'.

When the 'fast boot' option is enabled and the computer is 'shutdown' it will actually initiate a new mechanism of hibernating kernel mode components and not fully unload all components used by our software.

What To Do

Ensure the Windows 8 computer is 'restarted'.
