If you are using Sophos Endpoint versions 9.5 or 9.7, you will receive an automatic update to Sophos Anti-Virus version 10 in July 2012 (Applies to standalone and subscribed packages in Sophos Update Manager).

Note:

  • The server-side component (e.g., the console) will not be upgraded automatically.
  • If you are using Enterprise Console 4.x and want to upgrade to the latest version go to our Upgrade Center.

Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)

Sophos Endpoint Security 9.7
Sophos Endpoint Security and Control 9.5

Beginning in the second half of July 2012 we will be upgrading Sophos Endpoint versions 9.5 and 9.7 to version 10.0. The upgrade will happen automatically and will keep all of your existing settings.

Note: for customers on version 9.5 this replaces the planned upgrade from 9.5 to 9.7. We are delivering this update to give you better performance and product enhancements.

If you prefer you can upgrade to Sophos Endpoint 10 before July and start taking advantage of the product enhancements straight away.

If you prefer to stay on the Sophos Endpoint 9.5 or 9.7 release you will need to change your existing subscriptions of 9.5 and 9.7 to the required Extended Maintenance release. For further information please see article 116219

For full details of the enhancements, and details of how to upgrade manually if you choose to do it before the July automatic update, go to the Endpoint Upgrade Center.

What to do

Automatic Upgrade

You do not need to take any action. The update will be automatic, and will take place in the same way as the regular updates, using the same updating mechanism.

You will need to reboot your computers in order for the updates to take effect; however, please be assured that your Sophos anti-virus protection will not be compromised in the interim before the required reboot is completed.

Typically, you will reboot your computers at the end of the day or every few weeks, e.g. for Windows Updating patches to be applied. This will achieve the reboot Sophos requires. It is generally not necessary to reboot specifically for the Sophos update, as systems will be restarted anyway. Your console will keep a track of reboots required, clearing messages when client machines are restarted.

The automatic upgrade will affect 9.5 and 9.7 Recommended, Previous and Oldest subscriptions.

If the subscription is set to a fixed package or an extended maintenance package then this will not be automatically upgraded this July.

To prevent the automatic upgrade to Endpoint 10

If you prefer to stay on the 9.5 and 9.7 package as described above, you will need to change your existing subscriptions of 9.5 and 9.7 to the Extended Maintenance release.

Standalone Sophos Endpoint 9.5 upgrades

Endpoints with Sophos Endpoint 9.5 have been provisionally scheduled for automatic upgrade from April 2013, the endpoint client will upgrade to version 10, a restart will be required.

Standalone Endpoints with version 9.7 should automatically upgrade to 10 on their second update. i.e. The first update will upgrade the endpoint to the latest version of whatever version is installed so 9.7 to 9.7.8 (for example), then the second update will upgrade to version 10.
