The update manager fails to successfully update.
Open the update manager log viewer and set the filter to Error(default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Sophos\Enterprise Console\SUM\Log Viewer.exe or C:\Program Files (x86)\Sophos\Update Manager\Log Viewer.exe )
Error The synchronization of protection data for product release '8BAA10C1-3844-465E-919C-D778A5407708' failed as a required part '8BAA10C1-3844-465E-919C-D778A5407708' could not be found.
In the SUM trace logs it can be seen as;

Sophos Update Manager
This error is seen when a fixed package has been selected in the update manager for a subscription. A fixed package becomes unsupported when the virus data is older than 3 months and after 4 months the package is removed from the Sophos updating site causing this error to occur.
What To Do
- Open the Enterprise Console and access the update manager
- Select the subscript that is using the fixed package
- Set the subscription to either 'Recommended', 'Previous' or 'Oldest' for the software version you wish to use or set to a fixed supported package and remember to alter before the package is out of date.
- Click ok
- Right click on the update manager and click 'Update Now'
