SafeGuard Cloud Storage: Creating Cloud Storage Definitions (CSD)

When using Cloud Storage Encryption in the SafeGuard Management Center, the first thing you must do is to create the Cloud Storage Definition (CSD). You can use autodetection for specific Cloud Storage providers or configure the CSD based on a fixed synchronization application and synchronization folder.  

You require Security Officer (SO) status in order to perform the tasks described in this article.

What To Do

Integrated Cloud Storage Providers

You can use Cloud Storage provider placeholders to define the synchronization application and folders. These placeholders represent supported 3rd party Cloud Storage applications.

You can use the placeholder to specify a given 3rd party application as the synchronization application. You can use the same placeholder to point the synchronization folder in the CSD to the synchronization folder used by the 3rd party application.

  • Cloud Storage provider placeholders are encapsulated by <! and !>. 
  • Supported values in SafeGuard Cloud Storage 6.0 currently are: <!Dropbox!>


The advantage in this case is that SafeGuard Cloud Storage uses an auto-detection on the Client itself to find the application and the synchronization folder of the Cloud Storage Provider. This also applies to configuration changes (e.g. configuring a different path to the synchronization folder).

Other Cloud Storage Providers

In general, most Cloud Storage Providers that fulfill the following requirements should work with SafeGuard Cloud Storage.

The Cloud Storage Providers must:

  • run on the client computer where Cloud Storage is installed
  • have an application (or system service) that is stored on the local file system and synchronizes data between the cloud and the local system
  • store the synchronized data on the local file system.
