What to do

To test SMTP authentication you need a Linux system with installed tool 'mimencode'.

  1. Convert the username and password with mimencode:

    printf 'username' |mimencode

    printf 'password' |mimencode

  2. Open a telnet connection:

    telnet <smarthost> 25

    AUTH LOGIN

    <MIMENCODED USERNAME>

    <MIMENCODED PASSWORD>
