This is typically caused by a Windows restriction which only allows one overlay icon to be displayed. Windows allows a maximum of 15 icon overlays to be used, of which 4 are reserved, leaving 11 overlay icons available for other installed applications.
What To Do
Change the order of overlay icons in the registry of the client computer, following the example given below.
Windows stores all registered icon overlays in the registry path:
The icon at the top of the list (alphabetical) is the one that is displayed.
The registry key on a system with Safeguard Cloud Storage Encryption and Dropbox installed, looks like this (the Windows reserved icon overlays are not shown in the list):
As Windows evaluates this list in alphabetic order, the icons in the DropBox folder only show the DropBox and not the encryption overlay icons.
- Rename the individual keys in the order you want, as shown in this example, (where 1_FEOverlayDenied has been put at the top of the list, and the remainder listed as required).
Now the DropBox folder will show the file encryption icon overlays.
- You must now restart Explorer.
