  • Article ID: 114087
  • Updated: 07 Dec 2011

Installation fails with the error message "SafeGuard PortProtector Client has to be installed after Sophos SafeGuard® Client" when SafeGuard PortProtector or Safend PortProtector
is installed.

Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)

SafeGuard Device Encryption
SafeGuard Data Exchange
SafeGuard Configuration Protection

Operating systems
All supported OS.

What To Do

Apply the transform file, which can be downloaded below, during the installation of the SafeGuard client package to avoid the error message and complete the installation.

msiexec /i [SafeGuard Enterprise Package Name].msi /qn TRANSFORMS=[Path of the mst file]DisableCpCheck.mst /L*vx %SystemRoot%\SGN_INST.log

Download transfrom file (mst)

Important hint:

When using the mst file for the installation, please ensure not to install the configuration protection module of the SafeGuard Client package.

Technical Background:

The SafeGuard Client cannot be installed if SafeGuard PortProtector or Safend PortProtector is already installed. (those products are using the same upgrade-code as SafeGuard ConfigurationProtection).

The Transform-File removes/deactivates checking for any installed product that is incompatible with SafeGuard ConfigurationProtection (i.e. some Safend products).
