When attempting to remove Sophos Control Center from your server, you see the following error:

This setup requires administrator privileges

Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)

Sophos Control Center 4.1
Sophos Control Center 4.0.1

Operating system
Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows SBS 2011

This issue is caused by an interaction between User Access Control (UAC) in Windows and the Sophos Control Center installation program.

What to do

You will need to run the setup program, located in the installation directory, to remove Sophos Control Center. It is found at C:\scc_40\ServerInstaller or C:\scc_41\ServerInstaller.

If you don't have this directory on the server:

  • Turn off User Access Control (UAC), which will require a reboot after switching it off.
    1. To switch off UAC, click Start | Control Panel | User Accounts.

    2. Click the Change User Access Settings button and, depending on the version of Windows, select the most permissive setting.

Windows will alert you that you need to reboot the computer.

    3. When the computer has rebooted, remove Sophos Control Center.

Remember to reset UAC when it has finished uninstalling.
