Error 3003. You must uninstall the Sophos Client Firewall before uninstalling Sophos Anti-Virus.

Issue

When attempting to remove the Sophos Anti-Virus component from Add/Remove Programs you see the error:

Error 3003.  You must uninstall the Sophos Client Firewall before uninstalling Sophos Anti-Virus.

Cause
Either:

  1. The Sophos Client Firewall is still listed in Add/Remove Programs and needs to be removed first.  The Sophos Client Firewall depends on the Anti-Virus component and cannot exist without it.
    OR
  2. The registry key HKLM\Software\[Wow3264Node]\Sophos\Sophos Client Firewall has been detected by the Sophos Anti-Virus uninstaller.

What To Do

You should remove the Sophos Client Firewall from Add/Remove Programs before uninstalling the Sophos Anti-Virus component.

If the error appears when the Sophos Client Firewall is not listed in Add/Remove Program rename the following registry key.

  1. Open the registry editor (Start | Run | Type: regedit.exe | Press return).
  2. Browse to the key: HKLM\Software\[Wow3264Node]\Sophos\Sophos Client Firewall
  3. Right-click the key and export as a .reg file to a safe location.
  4. Rename the key to: HKLM\Software\[Wow3264Node]\Sophos\Sophos Client Firewall.old
  5. Close the registry editor.

You should now be able to uninstall the Sophos Anti-Virus component.
