A defect has been discovered in the Sophos Anti-Virus for OpenVMS virus engine. It does not load IDE files (threat detection data) released after the 4th of October, 2010 during system scans.
Please note: this defect only affects environments where IDE files (threat detection data) are saved to a directory other than the one containing the VSWEEP binaries (the non-default directory has the logical name of VSWEEP_AUX_DIR).
When VSWEEP starts to scan the system, IDE files released after the 4 October, 2010 fail to load. Protection from recent threats is therefore reduced.
What to do
A fix for this issue is currently under development, to be delivered in the November release of Sophos Anti-Virus for OpenVMS
In the interim, customers can work around this issue by writing IDE files directly to the directory containing the VSWEEP binaries, rather than to VSWEEP_AUX_DIR.
