Using the recovery key in SafeGuard LAN Crypt Administration

  • Article ID: 111532
  • Updated: 17 Oct 2014

Issue
The database recovery has been redesigned in SafeGuard LAN Crypt Administration 3.61 and above.

  • It is now possible to split up the recovery key cryptographically into eight parts.
  • The database recovery key can no longer be entered manually during creation as it is determined automatically by SafeGuard LAN Crypt.

Please check that you have a working Master Security Officer (MSO) before updating the database. During the database migration the existing recovery key will be deleted because of a change in the recovery mechanism. You will need an MSO to recreate the recovery key after database migration.

Known to apply to the following Sophos product(s) and version(s)
SafeGuard LAN Crypt Administration 3.61 and above

Operating systems
All supported operating systems
Management Console 3.0

What To Do

1- log on to the SafeGuard LAN Crypt Administration as MSO (Master Security Officer)

2- Right click on Central Settings and choose properties

3- To generate a recovery key, click the Generate recovery key button on the Recovery Keys tab. This runs the wizard used to generate the recovery key. A recovery key can be split into several parts and you can specify how many parts are necessary to assign a new certificate.
