During an emergency deinstallation, the progress bar does not proceed or deinstallation is running for many hours without progress. In the status line, a message "Error reading disk 0, sector [sectornumber]" is displayed.

The message "Error reading disk 0" (or disk 1, depending on number of harddisks built-in) indicates that there are defective sectors on the hard disk.

A read error from disk normally indicates a hardware defect. It could be a physical device failure, headcrash or something else.

What you should do if you are experiencing such an error:

- do not panic
- do not try to recover the data yourself (don't perform any action that cannot be undone later)
- read our knowledge article 106721 which gives further decision making help
