How and when to use compressed SafeGuard LAN Crypt policy files?

SafeGuard LAN Crypt is able to generate compressed policy files.

The main reason for using compressed SafeGuard LAN Crypt policy files is as followed.

Every time the client loads the SafeGuard LAN Crypt policy file, this profile will be verified and then be cached on the client. When working in big network environment or over a WAN connection it could slow down the network performance.

The size of a compressed policy file is 3k instead of 256k of a non-compressed policy file.

The generated compressed policy files are automatically extracted on the client machines.

For compression the *.bz2 format is used. This has the advantage that compressed files can be extracted using any standard tool.

The following options can be selected:

Normal only
Only non-compressed policy files will be created.

Compressed only
Only compressed policy files will be created.

Both formats
One compressed and one non-compressed policy file is generated.

If you specified to use the Novell name for logging on, SafeGuard LAN Crypt always generates two policy files for each user. If compression is activated, both files are compressed. If you selected both formats, four policy files will be created.
