Client OS

Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP

Server OS

Is it possible to boot from another medium than a floppy disk after the PBA?

Yes, it is possible to boot from another medium.

You can boot from a bootable CD or DVD. In order to achieve that you must follow these steps:

- Boot up to the PBA

- Enter your credentials (user SYSTEM or a user with explicit rights to boot after PBA from CD/DVD) when prompted

- Insert the bootable CD/DVD

- Press F7

Now the system will be booted from the CD/DVD.

It depends on the workstation’s BIOS support if an emergency boot from CD/DVD can be performed successfully. In case the boot from CD does not work and you are using SafeGuard Easy version 4.50.4 you can also try the combination [SHIFT] + [F7] in order to boot from external media.

Please note: If you also need to access encrypted data on the harddisk you have to implement SafeGuard Easy encryption drivers to the bootable medium (e.g. BartPE, Windows PE). In order to achieve this see also SGI 107019 "How to make a bootable BartPE CD with SGE drivers".

Hint: Alternatively, you can also use the WinPE 2.0 CD with integrated SafeGuard Easy drivers, which can be found within our knowledge base article 66019.
