What to do if the encryption / decryption process hangs at x%?


In general, there are two most common reasons for this behavior.

The first most common reason for this behaviour is a defective hard disk. In case the hard disk has defective sectors the encryption / decryption process can not handle those faulty sectors. You should stop any work on this hard disk and contact our support for further investigation, instead. Any further steps performed by yourself might lead to a possible data loss.

The second reason might be an external hard disk which was initially attached to the machine during the installation of SafeGuard Easy. Now, his hard disk is missing and SafeGuard Easy tries now to get access to this external hard disk.

If this is the case, please re-connect the USB drive to the machine and wait for the encryption / decryption process to complete. Do not perform any further reboot during the encryption / decryption process.

Note: as the manual states, no hard disk should be added or removed if SGE was installed. If an external hard disk is attached during SGE installation phase, SGE will recognize the hard disk and add the information to the kernel accordingly.

Depending on the installation type you have chosen (standard, partitioned), disconnecting the external hard disk can lead to an unbootable system.
