Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X will work on OS X Server. However, if the server is being run 'headless' (with no monitor) you will not be able to install as described in the Sophos Anti-Virus startup guide.

What to do

1. Installing via the command line

You can use a secure shell (ssh) to access the server, and install via the command line.

2. Installing with Apple Remote Desktop

ARD (Apple Remote Desktop) can be used to remotely install a package to any computer running the ARD client. If your server is running the ARD client, Sophos Anti-Virus can be installed in this way.

Alternatively, you can send UNIX scripts to a computer via ARD, and install Sophos Anti-Virus using the command line.

  1. Ensure that the package is on the local system.
  2. Move to the same directory as the installer.
  3. Type:

installer -pkg "Sophos Anti-Virus.mpkg" -target /
