Integrated in Sophos Mobile Control
You get all your mobile protection in one console. We make it easier for your admin to keep tabs on your mobile devices and make sure they're fully protected.
Sophos Mobile Security is designed to simply work. Once installed on a user's device and managed by Sophos Mobile Control, your Android users can no longer change the settings.
Here are just some of the things your admin can do with this version of Sophos Mobile Security:
- Schedule the scan frequency
- Define what is scanned, e.g. system apps, apps on an SD card, etc
- Trigger an immediate scan
- Define the level of web protection—off, minimum, maximum
- Set up risk mitigation actions in the compliance settings
- Decide what a user can and can’t do, such as ignoring apps
Please note: This functionality is only available in the Enterprise version of this app. It is available as an add-on license to Sophos Mobile Control.

Virus and Malware Protection
Keep your users safe by preventing the installation of malicious apps which can steal your data and cause you unwanted costs.
As the most popular mobile platform, Android has become a target for cybercriminals. Third-party app stores pose the greatest risk, but over the past two years, Google has also had to remove numerous apps from their store. And usually after many devices had already been infected. Although security has been stepped up, new malicious apps targeting Android devices are detected every day by SophosLabs. Nearly all of them aim to steal data from a device or cause you some kind of costs.
Sophos Mobile Security is a lightweight app which gives you an antivirus functionality for your Android devices. We make sure the apps your users install—and those already on their device or SD card—are safe to use and won't harm your business.
Learn more about antivirus protection
With the Enterprise version of our Mobile Security app, you'll know their apps are scanned during installation. A scheduled scan, which you define for your Android users, makes sure they always have the latest malware data from the cloud. You can also start an on demand scan at any time—either by your administrator, or by the user. We also recognize potential threats. Like apps with permissions which don't seem fitting for their functionality, or potentially unwanted apps (PUA) generally deemed unsuitable for business use.
- Scan apps as your users install them
- Scan previously installed apps both on the user's device and on storage devices (e.g. an SD card, or USB devices)
- Your admin schedules scans to regularly check all apps against the latest threat data
- Flag apps which could pose a potential threat
- Display PUAs, helping you recognize apps considered unsuitable for business networks
- Use our threat intelligence from the cloud with up-to-the-minute malware information
Keeping your malware data up to date
An anti-malware app isn't nearly as effective if users don't keep the data up to date. Malware is always changing, meaning having the current data is crucial.
Sophos Mobile Security uses data from the cloud provided by SophosLabs. We call this Sophos LiveConnect. Our specialists around the globe constantly monitor threat data for every platform and every kind of device. But we also know that your users are not always in one place. So, we've made it easy for you to block the cloud look-up when users are roaming outside of their network or home country. Helping you keep your costs under control.
Sophos LiveConnect is the same award-winning technology used for many of our other products, including Sophos EndUser Protection.

Mobile apps work with permissions. Know that the permission is necessary for the app to work before granting it access. Check before giving an app access to your address book or allowing it to place phone calls or send SMS texts.
Sophos Mobile Security categorizes your users apps using the familiar traffic light colors. Your users get an immediate overview of which apps pose a potential threat by accessing personal data or using services which can incur costs. The user can filter their apps in categories such as:
- Can cause costs
- Can harm your privacy
- Can access the Internet

Protection from USSD hacks
Cyber criminals constantly find new ways to exploit weaknesses in any platform. A number of Android users have fallen victim to an attack via USSD code, making their device do a factory reset. USSDs are special codes used for many functions. In many countries, they are used as the codes for performing tasks like checking the amount of credit you have left on your phone.
Sophos Mobile Security checks these codes against our threat data and warns your users before executing the code. The user can confirm whether they want to continue or block the code.
- Protect your device from attacks via USSDs
- Register Sophos Mobile Security to scan every number before your user dials it
- Users can block a code just once or permanently
