Sophos Security Expert to Share Security Insights at Industry Event
Chet Wisniewski to discuss “The Rising Tide of Ransomware” at BSides Vancouver Event
Sophos today announced that Senior Security Advisor, Chet Wisniewski, will present at the Security Bsides Vancouver Event on March 4, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. Chet will discuss the “Rising Tide of Ransomware” and how ransomware is impacting the security industry as well as individuals.

What: During this presentation, “The Rising Tide of Ransomware” Chet will examine how ransomware is quickly taking the place of fake anti-virus as the scam du jour for Eastern European criminals. He will look at the long sordid history of holding people's PCs for ransom and the techniques being used to ensnare victims today and discuss the encryption techniques being utilized, how they launder the cash and the methods being used to infect victims. Social engineering is a major component of these scams, but they do not solely rely on trickery.
