IT security and control firm Sophos announced today that its web
security appliance, Sophos Web Security and Control, was declared
the winner of the British Columbia Technology Industry
Association's (BCTIA) 2009 Technology Impact Awards (TIA's) for
Excellence in Product Innovation.
The BCTIA is British Columbia's leading member-based industry
association that represents start-ups to established technology
companies across the province. As the voice of the technology
industry, the BCTIA is committed to the ongoing growth,
sustainability and prosperity of the technology industry and the
transformation of British Columbia to a knowledge-based
economy.
Marking the awards' 15th year, over 700 representatives from
BC's technology and business community attended the awards gala at
the Vancouver Convention Centre on June 17, 2009 to recognize
British Columbia's top technologies, companies and individuals. The
TIAs are broken into three distinct groups: Technology Awards,
Company Awards, and Personal Recognition Awards.
"The winners and finalists reaffirm the breadth of BC's
technology sector, delivering crosscutting innovations that touch
all sectors of the economy," said Pascal Spothelfer, President and
CEO of BCTIA. "We congratulate all winners and finalists for their
ingenuity, adaptability and particularly their resiliency in a
challenging economic climate - they are all making their mark on
the world."
"We are thrilled that Sophos's web security appliance has been
recognized for excellence in product innovation by the BCTIA," said
Richard Baldry, web security product manager at Sophos. "We are
always looking to improve our web security appliance to optimize
pro-active protection, user productivity, and ease-of-management.
Thanks to our talented Vancouver-based team of engineers and our
committed sales team around the world, customers get maximum
protection without the complexity."
Sophos Web Security and Control ensures safe and productive
browsing by blocking malware, phishing attacks, anonymizing
proxies, and unwanted applications at the gateway before they can
do any damage. The appliances also employ real-time behavioral
genotype anti-malware scanning that provides the best zero-day
protection in the industry. Each web appliance, wherever it is in
the world, is automatically updated and remotely monitored by
Sophos.
