Utimaco - The Data Security Company, today launched its Compliance and Regulation
Portal, a website that will provide U.S. companies with the
latest news and information on state and federal data protection
mandates and related compliance issues. The site contains a
state-by-state listing of all data security regulations, details on
federal data protection legislation, current compliance news from
top media outlets and best practices for developing a robust
security strategy drawn from Utimaco's work with customers across
the vertical spectrum. To access the site, visit http://compliance.utimaco.com/na.
There are currently 44 states that have data breach notification
legislation in place, which typically requires companies to inform
officials and affected parties of any breach. These laws have been
in place in most states for several years, but as the threat
landscape continues to evolve and data breaches occur more
frequently, many lawmakers have passed increasingly stringent
rules. Specifically,
encryption technology-known for its reliability and relative
affordability-is becoming the de facto data security requirement in
many states, including Nevada and Massachusetts.
As new laws are passed and go into effect across the nation,
Utimaco's Compliance and Regulation Portal will be a key
destination for the latest information that security managers and
senior executives need to safeguard their companies. Visitors may
access the information at no cost on the site, sign up for email
updates when information is added, or receive content through an
RSS
feed or via Twitter at @Utimaco. Visitors are also invited to
interact with one another and Utimaco experts by posting comments,
asking questions and providing feedback on content. In the coming
months, Utimaco also plans to launch a Euro compliance portal,
focused on legislation and other compliance concerns across
Europe.
"Compliance remains a major challenge for businesses of all
sizes," said Cynthia Curtis, Executive Vice President, Marketing,
Utimaco. "Deploying and managing an encryption solution is actually
the easiest part of the compliance process. What companies really
struggle with is understanding how a new mandate impacts them and
what actions they must take. Our goal is to improve the process by
providing easily accessible help and offering proven best practices
for developing a robust compliance strategy."
Utimaco's Compliance and Regulation Portal is part of a series
of educational initiatives the company has undertaken in recent
months to help companies better understand and prepare for new data
security legislation mandating the protection of customer data.
Utimaco also partnered with Sophos, a world leader in IT security,
and Pertius Partners, a top IT security consultancy, to host "The
Business Impact of Data Security Regulations" events across
Massachusetts on March 24-25. The events were attended by over 50
CIOs and IT managers from across the state, including
representatives from various state agencies, town offices, higher
education instutites, hospitals and healthcare organizations, and
banks, as well as some of the state's most recognized brand
names.
