Sophos PureMessage for UNIX has been awarded West Coast Labs
Checkmark for email filtering.
Sophos, a world leader in IT security and control, today
announced that its email security solution, PureMessage
for UNIX, has been awarded West Coast Labs Checkmark for Email
Filtering, ensuring that attempts to send or receive emails with
contents that are in contravention of a standard email usage
security policy will fail and that all such attempts will be
logged.
According to the July 2007 West Coast Labs Technology
Filtering report, which features a detailed technical analysis
on the functionality and performance of Sophos's PureMessage for
UNIX, engineers awarded Sophos the Premium level Email Filtering
Checkmark Certification based on the ability to configure multiple
policies that filtered and successfully blocked the various
collections of email messages.
West Coast Labs independently tests participating products to
pre-published methodologies and against the performance criteria of
the Checkmark certification program and carries out additional
tests that indicate how the products perform in simulated business
environments that reflect real-world situations.
"PureMessage for UNIX offers a vast amount of flexibility to
corporations who wish to take control over incoming and outgoing
mail. The ability of this solution to adapt to not only the
changing nature of the internet, but also to different types of
organisation means that this is a serious heavyweight contender for
any Linux based mail servers," wrote West Coast Labs in their
report.
"A growing number of companies are thinking about how to control
data leakage and other outbound policy requirements. This
certification gives Sophos an independent stamp of approval that
says PureMessage has powerful and intuitive policy capabilities,
giving administratiors unprecedented control to secure their
gateway," said Carole
Theriault, senior security consultant for Sophos. "Passing with
flying colours means everyone who had a hand in bringing this
product to market can feel proud of their accomplishment, while
customers can feel secure in the knowledge that Sophos PureMessage
is second to none."
The West Coast Labs Checkmark certification for PureMessage for
UNIX follows news earlier this month that Sophos Anti-Virus had won
its 39th VB100 award from Virus Bulletin magazine.
The VB100 award is given to products found to detect 100% of the
in-the-wild viruses, without suffering from a single false
positive. In tests published in the August 2007 edition of Virus
Bulletin, Sophos was found to have outperformed
a number of competing products from other vendors on 64-bit Windows
Vista.
All Sophos products use the same technology to protect against
viruses, worms, spyware, Trojan horses and other malware, ensuring
consistently high detection rates across all operating systems.
