Sophos's ES4000 appliance has been awarded the West Coast Labs
Checkmark certification
Sophos, a world leader in IT security and control, today
announced that its email security appliance, ES4000, has been awarded West
Coast Labs Checkmark for 100% detection of in-the-wild viruses.
The accolade confirms the hardware appliance's ability to detect
100% of the viruses found in the wild, and its position as one of
the most powerful gateway protection products available.
"[The ES4000] security appliance is designed for corporate
customers. It monitors incoming email messages for spam, viruses
and other forms of malware and is more than capable of handling up
to 80,000 messages per hour thanks to its high hardware
specification," wrote West Coast Labs in their June 2007 technology
report, 'Anti-Malware Solutions'.
West Coast Labs concluded "The ES4000's consistently reliable
performance and high capacity make this well worthy of
consideration by all corporate customers."
The West Coast Labs Checkmark certification for the ES4000 email
security appliance follows news earlier this week that Sophos
Anti-Virus had won its 38th
VB100 award from Virus Bulletin magazine. The VB100 award is
given to products found to detect 100% of the in-the-wild viruses,
without suffering from a single false positive. In tests published
in the June 2007 edition of Virus Bulletin, Sophos was found to
have outperformed a number of competing products from other
vendors.
"Sophos's managed security appliances help protect organizations
against threats such as viruses, spyware and spam - and its
important for us and our customers to have the quality of our
protection tested by independent experts," said Graham Cluley, senior
technology consultant for Sophos. "We're delighted to see Sophos
achieve West Coast Labs Checkmark certification again, and are
confident that Sophos offers not only the best in customer service
and technical support, but also delivers a first class defense
against malware attack."
All Sophos products use the same technology to protect against
viruses, worms, spyware, Trojan horses and other malware, ensuring
consistently high detection rates across all operating systems.
