Cascadia Labs tested solutions from Sophos, Symantec and
McAfee.
Sophos, a world leader IT security, today announced that its
integrated protection for small business, including a firewall,
spyware and virus protection, performed better than McAfee and
Symantec's offerings in a comparative test from Cascadia Labs, an
independent evaluator of technology products.
Cascadia Labs tested Sophos Computer
Security Small Business Edition, SBE 2.0, against McAfee's
Active VirusScan SMB Edition and Symantec's Client Security 3.1.
The tests evaluated every aspect of running security software,
including installation and deployment, usability, management and
detection against known and unknown threats.
In particular Cascadia praised Sophos's SBE 2.0 for ease of use
and speed of installation, the test showing it took half the time
and a fraction of the steps when compared to Symantec and McAfee.
Sophos's firewall and Behavioral Genotype
Protection was also proven to be more effective at stopping new
and previously unseen viruses and spyware.
"With its comprehensive scope, ease of use, and effectiveness at
blocking and removing a variety of malware, Sophos Computer
Security SBE 2.0 is clearly the most compelling small business
solution in this test, outperforming both McAfee and Symantec
small-business endpoint security offerings," reported Cascadia
Labs.
"Security shouldn't be complicated," said John Stringer, small
business product manager at Sophos. "We want to ensure small
businesses get the highest level of protection. That means
providing tools designed with a small business in mind rather than
large enterprises. This report shows we are on the right
track."
