Awards. |
Sophos, a world leader in protecting businesses against viruses,
spyware and spam, has announced that its ZombieAlertâ„¢ service has been
nominated for this year's Information Management 2005 Awards, in
the category of "Information Security Product Award".
The Sophos ZombieAlert service identifies "zombie" computers on
an organization's network. Zombie computers are infected machines
that give control to unauthorized and remote users, allowing them
to send spam from the computer or to launch email-based
Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks against websites.
"Sophos's global network of threat analysis centers, provides
around the clock visibility into new and emerging threats,
including compromised computers. Sophos ZombieAlert service gives
organizations the opportunity to remedy the situation and clean
their systems," said Graham Cluley, senior
technnology consultant for Sophos. "We're delighted to have our
innovation in this area to be named as a finalist for these
prestigious awards."
"Sophos is the first vendor we know of to offer an on-the-fly
alert service that advises organizations that they are being used
to host zombies," said David Ferris of Ferris Research when the
service was launched in July. "This service is unique and very
timely. I would anticipate that competitors would soon follow
suit."
The winners will be announced at a gala dinner at the
prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 1 December. Over
1000 finalists, press, sponsors and guests were present at last
year's award ceremony.
