New product architecture simplifies and consolidates management
for larger enterprises
Sophos, a world leader in protecting businesses against spam and
viruses, today announced the latest edition of Sophos enterprise
solutions. Offering gateway, server and endpoint protection,
enterprise solutions introduces Genotypeâ„¢ detection technology, a
method of using forensic analysis to identify suspicious patterns
and characteristics that are unique to either a virus family or a
spam campaign. By analysing these Genotype patterns, Sophos can
reduce exposure to new unidentified threats and unwanted
content.
The Sophos products incorporate new architecture to address the
security needs of medium-to-large enterprises, which inevitably
have complex IT infrastructures. Sophos's new easy-to-use
management tools integrate updating and reporting tasks, removing
much of the existing administration costs.
"The enterprise solutions take all the best bits from the Sophos
product range and group them under one easy-to-use console," said
Kerry Hoskin, PC Network manager at the Plymouth Marine Laboratory.
"It is now even easier to install and get it up and running,
protecting the whole network - including remote users. The
management and reporting tools are greatly improved, giving
administrators lots of feedback as to the state of client PCs."
"With today's ever-evolving security threats, companies need
reliable protection that is easy to manage. The latest enterprise
offerings from Sophos have enhanced proactive detection, ensuring
all points of the network are protected," said Gary Thomassen, head
of product management at Sophos. "Early visibility ensures that
threats are harmless even before they are created."
A significant addition to Sophos's endpoint protection is an
improved management interface in the form of the new Sophos
Enterprise Consoleâ„¢. This administration console incorporates a
flexible management architecture that meets the needs of
organisations looking to simplify the management of Windows and
Macintosh anti-virus protection across their network of desktops
and servers - including those running in multiple locations.
IT administrators benefit from a range of features including
central deployment, enforceable network-wide anti-virus policies
and powerful integrated reporting. With the ability to manage by
exception, IT administrators can also identify those computers with
non-existent or outdated protection, remedying potential
vulnerabilities quickly and easily. To help businesses meet the
increasing need to manage security for their remote users, Sophos
has designed Enterprise Console with a built-in database system to
centrally track and report the status of these machines.
Sophos's email gateway and mail server product line,
PureMessageâ„¢, has also added integration and management
capabilities. New features in the gateway product (PureMessage for
UNIX 5.0) include a new reporting engine that provides greater
visibility into filtering performance and expanded, flexible
reporting timeframes. Additional features include easy LDAP
integration, enhanced end-user web interface robustness and
performance, native support for the Sun Java System Messaging
Platform, and streamlined deployment. PureMessage 2.1 for
Windows/Exchange offers installation improvements and scalability
enhancements.
"Corporate networks have become expensive and cumbersome to
manage. Businesses are looking for solutions that can both
comprehensively protect all points of the network against threats
and reduce the complexity of managing an enterprise's security,"
said Matt Cain of the analyst firm META Group. "Today's enterprises
are looking for intuitive and manageable solutions that offer early
protection against multiple threats."
Sophos enterprise solutions are backed by SophosLabsâ„¢, a global
network of virus and spam analysis centres, which provide
unparalleled 24-hour protection against the latest threats. Sophos
is also introducing its new support packages designed specifically
for large enterprises. While Sophos is known for its acclaimed 24/7
technical support, the new support offerings cater to enterprises
requiring even higher levels of customised support.
The new Sophos Anti-Virus products and PureMessage for
Windows/Exchange are scheduled to begin roll-out in Q1 2005, with
PureMessage for Unix to follow thereafter.
