Dr Jan Hruska, CEO of Sophos, formally opened the new offices in Sydney.

Sophos, a leader in computer virus and spam protection for businesses, today announced a significant new investment in its Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) subsidiary. The investment boosts the local IT industry by onshoring new high tech jobs while enhancing global security innovation.

At the core of this announcement is a new High Security Research & Development Laboratory in North Sydney and a significant headcount increase across Sophos's research, development and customer support teams.

In a win for the Australian IT industry, Sophos also announced today that its new North Sydney headquarters would become the company's Asia Pacific technical services hub, extending its existing ANZ services to the wider region. This ensures that Sophos's customers and partners enjoy direct, real-time access to the expertise of its acclaimed computer security researchers and software engineers - augmenting the support provided locally throughout Asia.

"Sophos's success in Australia and New Zealand to-date and the innovation demonstrated by the region's IT industry were key factors in our decision to extend our global capabilities through this new investment," said Dr Jan Hruska, Sophos's co-founder and Chief Executive. "Sophos ANZ has rapidly captured market share and our local support and computer security research teams have established a reputation as being among the world's best."

Hruska cited Sophos ANZ's very strong relationships with industry, government and law enforcement as a model that the company was adopting on a global scale to combat computer crime cooperatively.

Sophos Australia and New Zealand has forged close working relationships with Australian government bodies including the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts (DCITA), the Australian High Tech Crime Centre, the Australian Communications Authority and the Australian Federal Police among others. The company has also established close ties with industry representatives such as the Australian Banking Industry Association.

Rob Forsyth, managing director for Sophos Australia and New Zealand, said, "Sophos has made an important investment in the Australian IT industry to create new local high tech jobs, provide a centre of excellence for its Asia Pacific technical operations and further develop the infrastructure to support additional growth."

"The new investment recognises the formidable reputation that Sophos's local research, development and support teams have forged for global technical innovation and customer service delivery. Further, our new research and development capabilities will help us to cooperate at a much deeper level with Australian industry and law enforcement organisations, enabling faster and proactive joint responses to new electronic threats."

Sophos Australia and New Zealand is now headquartered at Level 11, One Elizabeth Plaza, North Sydney. Sophos can be contacted by phone +61 2 9409 9100 or email sales@sophos.com.au.
