Sophos SAV Interface and Enterprise Manager will protect over
3,500 users in the school
Manila, Philippines - Sophos, a world leader in corporate
anti-virus protection, announced today that Don Bosco Technical
College, one of the pioneering technical schools in the
Philippines, has chosen to deploy Sophos SAV Interface to protect
its campus network against computer viruses. In addition, Don Bosco
will also make use of Sophos Enterprise Manager for automatic
distribution of virus updates from a dedicated Sophos website to
the school's network servers.
Don Bosco Technical College, celebrating its 50th Golden
Anniversary this year, is the first educational institution in the
Philippines to deploy Sophos anti-virus solutions. It has an
enrolment of over 3500 students who access the campus network via
300 computers in the campus laboratories.
"Due to the recent proliferation of viruses and worms, we
realised that we need to protect our campus environment. We chose
Sophos because we wanted a solution-oriented anti-virus package.
With Sophos, we can obtain virus updates and technical support
quickly," remarked Byron Guazon, IT Director, Information Systems
and Technology Centre, Don Bosco Technical College
Deployment of Sophos SAV Interface and Enterprise Manager will
commence first in Don Bosco Technical College's Mandaluyong branch,
Manila. The solution may then be extended to other schools in
Makati City, Canlubang, Pampanga and Tarlac.
"With our centralisation strategy, we may only have to buy one
application and use only one solution to protect all the different
campuses, thereby helping us to save costs," said Guazon.
"Don Bosco Technical College has become one of the many
educational institutions in Asia to benefit from Sophos Anti-Virus
technology," said Charles Cousins, managing director, Sophos
Anti-Virus Asia. "We are elated to partner with Don Bosco Technical
College in combating virus proliferation in the education sector.
This is another proof that Sophos has one of the most reliable
anti-virus solutions in the industry today."
SAV Interface provides a powerful way to build Sophos virus
detection into any application. It allows Internet Service
Providers (ISPs) and Application Service Providers (ASPs) to offer
integrated protection to their clients. SAV Interface incorporates
disinfection capability and gives comprehensive information when a
virus is found.
Enterprise Manager is an administration tool that allows
automatic distribution of Sophos packages including applications,
virus protection, etc., from a remote website to a local file
server. It gives administrators full control by allowing them to
schedule automated package downloads at specific times.
