Sophos has been named one of Britain's top 100 unquoted
companies with the fastest growing profits in the third annual
PricewaterhouseCoopers Profit Track 100 league table.
The accolade follows a year of achievements for the company.
These include being named 'Company of the Year' at the CBI/Real
Business Growing Business Awards and receiving two prestigious
Queen's Awards for Enterprise in the categories of 'Innovation' and
'International Trade'.
Sophos was applauded for driving up profits by 37% a year from
£3m in 1998 to £7.8m in 2001.
About the league table
The PricewaterhouseCoopers Profit Track 100 is independently
compiled by research company Fast Track, and published in The
Sunday Times. In addition to title sponsor PricewaterhouseCoopers,
the survey is sponsored by Phoenix Equity Partners and Oracle.
League table criteria
Companies are ranked according to their annual growth rate in
profits over the three years to their latest financial year (either
1997-2000 or 1998-2001). Profits are defined as operating profits
with directors' remuneration added back in.
Companies had to be registered in the UK, unquoted and ultimate
holding companies, not subsidiaries. Pure property developers and
financial trading companies were excluded because of their
irregular trading patterns.
Sophos is headquartered in Boston, US and Oxford, UK. More information is available at www.sophos.com.
