Sophos, a world leader in corporate anti-virus protection, has
announced that its virus scanning technology will power
MailDefender, the internet-level anti-virus service from intY Ltd,
Bristol.
MailDefender runs at the internet gateway and, using Sophos
Anti-Virus, can be configured to scan all inbound and outbound
email for more than 70,000 computer viruses, worms and Trojan
horses.
If a virus or suspicious attachment is detected the sender,
intended recipient and system administrator can be notified -
depending on customer specification - and can decide whether or not
to accept the email. If rejected, the email is held for thirty days
before being destroyed.
"Sophos Anti-Virus is the obvious choice for this service
because of its confirmed 100 percent detection rates and effortless
integration," said intY's managing director and email and internet
expert, Mark Herbert. "We have a long-standing relationship with
Sophos and are confident that our mutual success is set to
continue."
"Security is climbing further up the agenda and customers are
demanding more from their solutions providers," said Mark Forrest,
sales and marketing director for Sophos Anti-Virus. "The
MailDefender service provides an effective defence against
email-borne viruses - one of the main security threats faced by
businesses today."
In addition to Sophos technology, MailDefender also includes
intYscan, intY's own intelligent heuristic analysis package.
intYscan checks all email and attachments after they have passed
through the Sophos engine, adding a further level of
protection.
