Sophos, a world leader in corporate anti-virus solutions and
Sendmail, Inc., the dominant provider of Internet mail servers,
today announced a technology partnership that will provide a
powerful solution to protect enterprise and service provider
customers from Internet-borne viruses. Sendmail customers will now
have access to the world's most powerful virus protection using
Sophos Anti-Virus technology.
Sophos is providing server-level virus defence by integrating
its Sophos Anti-Virus Interface (SAVI) with products in the
Sendmail Switch product line, using Sendmail's recently launched
Content Management API. Integrated server-level virus scanning is
fast and flexible, eliminating viruses before they reach end-user
desktops.
"Internet Mail has become an essential communication tool for
business, and so it is imperative that viruses are detected and
destroyed at the Internet gateway," said Graham Cluley, head of
corporate communications for Sophos. "By combining Sophos
Anti-Virus technology with the Sendmail Switch, we are effectively
policing the front line, ensuring that company's internal mail
systems are not open to infection."
Sophos's partnership with Sendmail enables every element of both
inbound and outbound email messages, including the body and all
attachments, to be scanned as they pass thorough the mail routing
system. This integrated approach dramatically accelerates
performance and provides greater control for determining how to
identify and process virus-infected messages.
"Viruses are costing businesses worldwide millions of pounds
every year," said Greg Olson, CEO for Sendmail. "Because Sendmail
software routes the vast majority of mail across the Internet, it
is crucial that we provide our customers with the best tools
available to combat these viruses. Sendmail's integration with
Sophos is a powerful tool for eliminating the virus threat before
it is even delivered."
Sophos will announce when Sophos Anti-Virus for Sendmail is
available.
