Sophos - the first anti-virus vendor to provide simultaneous,
cross-platform on-access scanning and software updates
IT managers operating in a cross-platform environment now have
access to an integrated anti-virus Macintosh and PC solution.
The latest enhancement to Sophos Anti-Virus (SAV) is the SWEEP
virus detection engine for Macintosh. This provides GUI-based,
on-demand scanning of the local machine and any networked machine
visible to the Mac. Sophos's InterCheck virus scanning technology
also delivers real-time, on-access virus protection to Mac users,
as files are scanned locally when accessed.
'It is increasingly common to find cross-platform environments
sharing applications like MS-Office, which are the main source for
macro viruses', said Paul Ducklin, head of research at Sophos. 'It
is vital that Macs are covered by exactly the same stringent
security policies as other workstations. You can only really
guarantee this with a product that is truly integrated across the
enterprise.'
'While most products take technical integration as given, less
attention is spent on design. SAV provides a consistent interface,
which makes life easier for both users and IT managers', added
Ducklin.
SAV for Macintosh detects and disinfects Microsoft Office macro
viruses. The software is updated twelve times per year, and users
can download evaluation software from Sophos's website.
Sophos is headquartered in Boston, US and Oxford, UK. More information is available at www.sophos.com.
