Top defenders put the boot into network insecurity

Sophos and Content Technologies team up against Net Threats.

Two leading players in the information security arena are joining forces to present 'Defence beyond the firewall', a game plan for effective network security, which exposes the limitations of relying solely on firewalls.

The seminar is co-hosted by anti-virus specialist, Sophos and Content Technologies, developer of MIMEsweeper, Content Security software. It is targeted at IT and network managers. Key players from both companies will discuss web, email and FTP viruses, URLs and unsanitised cookies, malicious Active X and Java code, and junk and spoof email.

Andy Harris, director of development at Content Technologies, will kick off the seminar with an overview of recent developments such as spamming and spoofing. He will also demonstrate how effective Content Security can tighten network defences against the leaking of confidential, libellous or defamatory information.

In the second half, Paul Ducklin, head of research at Sophos, will highlight the latest trends in malicious software before discussing ways in which virus prevention measures can be effectively and seamlessly incorporated into gateway defences.

"A firewall can stop basic attacks on your network, but your organisation needs more than just a goalkeeper to beat the opposition," said Chris Heslop, marketing manager at Content Technologies. "Defence beyond the firewall explains the role of other players in the field, and how they can work together to close down the gaps in your system."

"IT managers are often too busy to take a step back and look at the wide range of security issues that affect organisations," said Paul Ducklin. "Our research shows that the increasing use of email has led to a significant rise in virus attacks. But email is only the start of the problem. This seminar will explain how to defend against these threats."

'Defence beyond the firewall' kicks off with continental breakfast at 9.00am on Thursday June 11, 1998, at the Cavendish St James Hotel in London. To reserve your seat at the seminar, please call Fiona Melville on 0118 930 1300 or email seminar@mimesweeper.com.
