Cause

Either the Sophos Remote Management System's (RMS) 'AdapterStorage' directory cannot be deleted or the 'Endpoint' directory of Sophos Management Communications System (MCS) cannot be removed.

What To Do

If the problem is with removing the 'Adapter' storage directory of RMS:

  1. Stop the 'Sophos Agent' service.
    1. Click 'Start' | 'Run' | type: services.msc and press Enter.
    2. Scroll down to the 'Sophos Agent' service.
    3. Right-click on the service and click 'Stop'.
  2. In Windows Explorer browse to:
    • Windows XP/2003: C:\Documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Sophos\Remote Management System\3\Agent\
    • Windows Vista+: C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Remote Management System\3\Agent\
  3. Delete the 'AdapterStorage' directory.
  4. Run the installation again.

If the problem is removing the 'Endpoint' directory of MCS:

  1. If present and not already stopped, stop the 'Sophos MCS Client' and Sophos MCS Agent' services.
    1. Click 'Start' | 'Run' | type: services.msc and press Enter.
    2. Scroll down to the previously mentioned services.
    3. Right-click on the services and click 'Stop'.
  2. In Windows Explorer browse to:
    • Windows XP/2003: C:\Documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Sophos\Management Communications system\
    • Windows Vista+: C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Management Communications System\
  3. Delete the 'Endpoint' directory.
  4. Run the installation again.

Note: Please ensure that before running the installer again no Explorer windows or command prompts are open that could be accessing the above directories.
