Sophos Anti-Virus for NetApp Storage Systems: overview of properties, statistics and options

This article lists the statistics and options available in the 'Properties' dialog box of Sophos Anti-Virus for NetApp. It also lists some of the NetApp registry keys.

Properties dialog box options, version 1

Statistics Explanation
Total file open requests The total number of scan requests from the filer that were accepted for scanning by Sophos Anti-Virus for NetApp Storage systems (this number will not increase if a request can not be satisfied because of some internal problem – see “Requests denied”)
Requests denied The number of times a request from the filer was denied by the Sophos Anti-Virus for NetApp server. This increases every time Sophos Anti-Virus for NetApp Storage systems service (savnaser.exe) cannot obtain internal resources (e.g. no free synchronisation semaphores, creating threads failed, etc. If it increases steadily, it means that the Sophos Anti-Virus for NetApp server is running out of internal resources.
File open failures Increments when attempts are made to access a viral file on the filer, or access to the file that needs scanning was denied by OS for some other reason
Current thread count The current number of threads in use for scanning files on the filer, as one thread is used per file this is effectively the number of files currently being scanned
Highest thread count The highest number of files that have been scanned at any one time
Average round-trip time This is calculated by dividing elapsed time by number of total file open requests
Effective round-trip time This is is calculated by taking the number of scans per minute, divided by 60 and multiply it by 1000. This gives the result in milliseconds
Scans per minute The number of files scanned per minute of elapsed time
 Elapsed time  The elapsed time since the Sophos Anti-Virus for NetApp service started

Key Explanation
Debug mode (on/off) Can be changed in UI - by CTRL-ALT-D key combination
Interval to check IC How often to check whether Intercheck is alive; can’t be changed in UI and should not be changed by customers unless told otherwise by Sophos
Port – which port to use to send stat packets over UDP to MMC snapin Can’t be changed in UI and should not be changed by customers unless told otherwise by Sophos
Thread timeout – how long to wait before killing a thread that has been stuck scanning a file Can be changed in UI when Debug mode is enabled
Trace mode – controls whether to use more detailed logging Can be changed in UI when Debug mode is enabled
Enable keep-alive probes Controls sending keep-alive messages to filer – can be changed in UI
