Information regarding the latest Sophos Mobile Control iOS app release
Why is the Mobile Control app updated before the other Sophos Mobile Control 4.0 components?
The app has been released at an earlier stage to prepare it for the new Sophos Cloud functionality which will be released before Sophos Mobile Control 4.0.
What new functionality does the update provide?
This update mainly provides functionality to communicate with the Sophos Cloud environment.
- Sophos Cloud will soon be able to manage iOS devices.
- The ability to enroll devices has been implemented within this version.
- You can now scan a QR code which is sent out by Sophos Cloud.
- The "Control" app is the starting point for registering devices in the Sophos Cloud environment. In this way it differs from Sophos Mobile Control.
Furthermore, a connectivity check has been implemented to verify if the connection to the Apple Push Notification Gateway is possible for a given device. This check can be found in the "Info" section within the Sophos Mobile Control app.
Does the QR code feature also work for Sophos Mobile Control (SMC)?
No. Sophos Mobile Control does not support the registration method via QR code. This will only be possible with the next update of Sophos Cloud.
Do I have to change the way I roll out iOS devices with SMC 3.6?
No.There are no changes regarding the roll out of the application.
If you deploy the app via your Sophos Mobile Control server as a managed app, it will still be activated automatically.
I am currently using Sophos Mobile Control on my iOS device, do I have to do anything after the update?
No. There is nothing you need to do. The app still works as before. You can also keep the old version of the application if you do not want to update the app.
When will the other Sophos Mobile Control components be updated?
An update for all other components such as the SMC server and the Android client will be provided in May.
