BOSTON - December 18, 2009 - IT security and data protection firm Sophos today announced that eWeek Labs tested Sophos Endpoint Security and Data Protection 9. The reviewer concluded that the Sophos's enterprise endpoint solution is comprehensive, "slick and easy -to-manage."
In November 2009, eWeek Labs began reviewing Sophos Endpoint Security and Data Protection, which offers a single integrated solution for both anti-malware and data protection. The solution also includes integrated network access control (NAC) and encryption capabilities.
The reviewer noted that that the "Sophos Enterprise Console provides all the information needed to quickly assess the security of your organization's endpoints", which reduces administrative burden by automating the deployment of protection, and simplifying policy management and reporting. "The dashboard shows alerts and errors at a glance", providing instant visibility of the protection status and events across Windows, Mac, Linux and UNIX platforms, and enables the centralized cleanup of malware; and fixes non-compliant computers.
Also highlighted was Sophos's "solid reporting shows device control and data control events." The reviewer was able to see who attempted to do what and when. Another added benefit is the protection against accidental loss of data via Sophos's customizable "Application Control Popup", which can be used to block, allow or notify a user of violations of policy. The feature can allow IT administrators to simply warn the user by letting them know if the file is sent, that transmission will be logged into the management console.
Administrators can be kept apprised of data protection leakage actions via the same management console used to watch for malware events. Sophos Endpoint Security and Data Protection includes anti-virus and anti-spyware protection, client firewall, data leakage prevention (DLP) content monitoring, management of removable storage devices and detects and blocks unauthorized software.
