Sophos's web appliance received top marks in the review by SC
Magazine
IT security and control firm Sophos announced that SC Magazine
has published a review of Sophos's WS1000
web appliance, which enables comprehensive web access control
for safe, productive web browsing, awarding it 5 out of 5
stars.
The January 2009 review in SC Magazine concluded that Sophos's
web appliance, which blocks spyware, viruses, phishing, malware,
anonymizing proxies and other unwanted applications at the gateway,
offers value for money, highlighting the ease of deployment,
comprehensive reporting capabilities and exceptional web filtering
rates.
"Social networking is a big issue nowadays and we had no problem
blocking access to sites such as Facebook and MySpace, as they came
under the Personals and Dating category," said David Mitchell from
SC Magazine's testing labs, who conducted the review. "During
testing we found the WS1000 delivered a very high success rate with
its web filtering."
While most appliances become expensive to manage with annual
maintenance contracts and update subscriptions, the review
highlights the cost-effectiveness of Sophos's WS1000 web-filtering
appliance since the cost of the hardware includes 24-hour global
support as well as remote monitoring advising customers of
problems.
The review also commended the WS1000's reporting facilities and
policy operations, in particular the ability to customise access to
particular users and groups. Administrators are also able to
monitor users' web browsing activities as well as receive reports
on which policies are being violated and how much bandwidth is
being used.
"Businesses will find the WS1000 a good partner for enforcing
acceptable use policies," concluded Mitchell. "It's easy to deploy
and manage, offers tough policy-driven web content filtering and
the new HTTPS scanning and Active Directory integration features
bring a lot of extra value to this product."
Sophos Web Security and Control blocks spyware, viruses,
phishing, malware, anonymizing proxies and other unwanted
applications at the gateway. It is designed to easily fit into any
network infrastructure, reducing administrative costs.
