Sophos has been nominated in the European Excellence Awards for its
Facebook privacy investigation.
IT security and control firm Sophos, and its PR agency Johnson
King, has been shortlisted for for UK PR Campaign of the Year in
the European Excellence Awards. The nomination has arisen as a
result of Sophos and Johnson King's successful "Facebook probe"
campaign.
The European Excellence Awards are designed to showcase the
finest work in the communications industry. Johnson King and
Sophos's campaign was shortlisted from more than 600 different
nominations, and is now competing against the likes of Mastercard,
HP, and The Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
The Sophos Facebook probe was designed to educate the public
about the potential risks of online social-networking, and through
this highlight the breadth of Sophos's security and control
expertise.
The campaign was highly effective in driving traffic to the
Sophos website - in particular its "hot topic" landing page section
dealing with Facebook privacy and web security
and control - as well as making a positive impression on
Sophos's Google search engine optimisation rankings with hot
traffic keywords.
"Johnson King worked with us to formulate intelligent and
innovative strategies which helped the media make the transition
from recognising Sophos as a security company to one offering
protection and control solutions for wide range of IT hazards,"
said Carole
Theriault, senior security consultant at Sophos. "By making the
topic fresh and interesting, securing excellent opportunities and
responding quickly and effectively to media requests, Johnson King
were key to this recent success."
Johnson King helped Sophos achieve more than 200 pieces of UK
coverage during the campaign, including dedicated articles in the
Daily Telegraph, Independent and The Times. In addition Sophos
spokespeople appeared on national television news programmes
discussing privacy concerns about social networking websites. The
Awards ceremony will be held on December 13th in Berlin,
Germany.
