IDC reports Sophos Anti-Virus has increased market share to
12%
Sophos (Australia) Pty Ltd, the wholly-owned subsidiary of
UK-based corporate anti-virus specialist Sophos Plc., was the
fastest growing secure content management software company in
Australia according to industry analyst group IDC, in its
'Asia/Pacific Security Software Tracker', released in October
2002.
The report, sees Sophos move into fourth position in Australia's
secure content management software market, having doubled its
market share from 6 to 12% in the six month period to June 2002.
IDC's secure content management software research covers anti-virus
software for the desktop, server and gateway as well as content
management software.
"Corporate Australia has never been more aware of the potential
damage viruses and worms can cause," said Natasha David, Senior
Researcher, IDC Australia. "Last month's Bugbear worm proved that
businesses can never be too careful when it comes to anti-virus
protection. Today's corporate environment requires a solid security
strategy and for users to adopt safe computing policies."
According to Stuart Palmer, Sophos's managing director for
Australia and New Zealand, Australian businesses of all sizes have
come to the realisation that they are at risk from a widening range
of digital threats and are investing in anti-virus software and
other secure content management solutions in a bid to protect
themselves.
"This market realisation, combined with the strength of our
product and focus on growing channel sales, has led us to capture
12% of the Australian market, stealing market share from some of
our long-established competitors. Investing A$2 million in a high
security virus laboratory is also a key differentiator, with
research and development based in Sydney offering expert 24x7
customer support.
"The market has responded well to our 'sticking to the knitting'
philosophy, whereby our core offering and core expertise lies with
best-of-breed, enterprise anti-virus solutions."
