In this challenging and fast paced role, you will be working as part of the IT solutions resource pool as a key project member conducting BI requirements analysis with departmental stakeholders and managing the technical delivery of solutions that meet business BI needs.
You will enjoy using your strong written and verbal communication skills to negotiate requirements with stakeholders, and you will draw upon your technical knowledge and MS SQL skills to select the most appropriate technology to deliver against these requirements. You will demonstrate a flexible approach and welcome the opportunity to work in an autonomous role where your judgement is valued in determining the best way to tackle business issues.
Main duties
- Meet with departmental representatives across the business to identify BI requirements, questioning and proposing options to ensure that the requirements are accurately captured and potential solutions will deliver business needs
- Qualify departmental priorities for solutions, providing summaries and explanations to the Senior BI Analyst so that a company-wide prioritisation of requests can be produced
- Utilise understanding of business requirements to estimate time needed to build solutions, and use priority ratings to develop a roadmap for the delivery of solutions with stated completion dates and milestones
- Set and manage expectations for delivery of solutions with business stakeholders
- Create technical specifications, detailing the architecture of the technical solution in line with the business requirements, that can be used as a template for others to deliver the solution
- Build solutions in line with specifications created by self and others, selecting appropriate tools and confirming delivery of requirements upon completion to business owner
- Create and execute test cases to ensure the functionality and usability of solutions in line with business requirements, fixing errors or raising them with solution owner as agreed
- Utilize existing KPI and dimension definitions to ensure consistency in reporting, identifying and raising requests for new KPIs and dimensions with relevant business stakeholders and gaining agreement on a common definition
- Design, build and evolve highly efficient and automated SQL jobs to harvest core data from disparate sources into the definitive Enterprise BI Data Warehouse
- Utilize understanding of business requirements to identify and make recommendations for improvements to systems, processes and working practices, and gain agreement from the Senior BI Analyst for their implementation
- Proactively identify anomalous, unexpected or significantly noteworthy data, verify its accuracy, and raise it to the attention of the Senior BI Analyst or relevant decision makers for discussion, and agree actions.
Experience and skills
Essential:
- Identified and implemented structures and schemas for a commercial data warehouse
- Developed efficient Extract Transform and Load (ETL) processes.
- Requirements gathering and qualification from technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Matching, merging, validating and cleansing corporate data
- Building reporting views and subsystems using MS SQL tools, Excel, Sharepoint etc. to deliver regular KPIs, scorecards and OLAP capabilities.
- Hands-on investigative work to discover, draw out and illustrate significant business trends from underlying data sets
- Working on a range of priorities in a time-bound environment
- Verbal and written communication skills

- Working under a structured project management framework
- Designing & building data warehouses using techniques based on industry best-practices
