In this exciting role you will work as part of the SophosLabs team, protecting businesses from known and emerging malware- viruses, rootkits and spyware- and other computer threats like phishing, spam and scams.
You'll analyse viruses, spam campaigns and other threats as you reverse engineer files provided to Sophos for research. You'll write identities for immediate inclusion in Sophos products, providing immediate protection to our customers. You'll have a passion for computer security and will enjoy solving problems of a complex nature.
Your ability to conduct work of an investigative nature and your attention to detail in your work will mean that you will enjoy the challenge that this role presents.
SophosLabs provides 24/7 global protection to our customers, and you will therefore be required to participate in out-of-hours and weekend working
Main duties
- Analyse viruses, spam campaigns and other threats according to SophosLabs standards and guidelines
- Reverse engineer submitted files
- Write identities to be added into Sophos security products for immediate provision to customers
- Identify and analyse exploits and vulnerabilities, providing solutions and information to customers
- Write malware descriptions for publication on the Sophos website
- Answer customer queries routed via Technical Support and internal queries from all departments
- Provide regular status reports and feedback to the relevant manager
- Comply with SophosLabs security and confidentiality policies
- Research and write articles on different aspects of Security for publication to the Sophos website
- Cultivate good working relationships with SophosLabs and within the wider Sophos organisation
Experience and skills
You will need to demonstrate experience of the following:- Strong and demonstrable interest in Computer Security
- Working with a common operating systems (e.g. Windows)
- Working with commercial applications
- Working with command line applications
- Working within a corporate network environment
- Good working knowledge of common operating systems (e.g. Windows, Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, OS X)
- Assembler (8086)
- Reverse Engineering
