In this role, you will write and maintain documentation and help systems to assist customers with installation and use of Sophos software. You will be responsible for writing material that is tailored to the network structure and security needs of Sophos customers.
Experienced in researching and negotiating document requirements, you'll lead discussions to define materials for new software programs and products. You'll be skilled in gathering information from different sources, as you assess material and write technical documents based on requirements, delivering against documentation plans.
This is a 12 month maternity cover position, and is based at our headquarters in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
Main duties
- Participate in and lead discussions with Software Development, Technical Support and Product Management to define documentation requirements for new software programs and products
- Develop and update technical glossaries for projects to which you are assigned
- Review the product requirement document and functional specification for each project you are assigned to
- Develop a documentation plan and schedule for the project
- Ensure that the Software Development, Test and Technical Support departments are aware of the schedule for document reviews and that reviewers are assigned
- Write documents in line with the documentation plan, ensuring conformance to company and department style
- Submit documents for technical review and peer review in accordance with the schedule
- Check feedback from reviewers and negotiate any slippage in delivery dates
- Provide the Build team with approved documents for inclusion in the product build (help files) and CD build (PDF documents)
- Attend CR (change request) review meetings
- Contribute to the development of team processes and procedures
Experience and skills
Essential:
- Writing technical documents based on requirements
- Working knowledge of common operating systems
- Proofreading
- Researching and negotiating document requirements
- Creating and delivering against documentation plans
- Contributing to the development of standards processes and procedures
- Selecting document structure and style appropriate to documentation projects
- Understanding software development lifecycles
- Using structured mark-up languages
Desirable:
- Writing expert (help) systems
- Understanding the interdependence of different projects
- Measuring and assessing the achievement of project goals
