Senior Business Intelligence Analyst

In this role you will drive the systematic collation, analysis and delivery of accurate, timely and actionable business information to Sophos's executive decision makers.
You'll guide other BI Analysts to create and maintain a definitive catalogue of core business data. You will publish this data internally, defining standard dimensions, data sources, business rules, core metrics and key performance indicators for the company. You'll use simple and familiar self-services tools and automation techniques in order to present information in the most efficient and effective way, making data accessible and easy to analyse.
As well as having expertise in data modelling and database design and a thorough knowledge of MS SQL server 2005 capabilities, you'll be comfortable in leading significant projects to match, merge and validate corporate data. You'll be skilled in presenting data in a user-friendly form, using your ability to understand business issues to select the appropriate level and depth of data required. You'll also enjoy leading investigative work to illustrate trends as you make a significant contribution to the way that Sophos makes key business decisions. You are likely to have a degree in a Maths, Science or Engineering- related discipline.
This role is based at our headquarters in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, although occasional international travel will be required.
Main duties
- Work with the VP of IT, the IT Enterprise Information Architect and key executive and operational stakeholders to create and maintain a definitive, internally-published catalogue of core business data
- Design, build and evolve highly efficient and automated SQL jobs to harvest core data from disparate sources into the definitive Enterprise BI Data Warehouse
- Regularly reconcile and cleanse all data within both the Data Warehouse and the source systems, with a goal of 100% reconciliation between all data objects
- Conduct regular data quality audits with the input of data owners from around the business to ensure quality, completeness and accuracy of data
- Design and build tables, views, functions, stored procedures and other MS SQL objects within the Enterprise BI Data Warehouse to create a fully-managed set of consumable BI data sources
- Design and build refreshable standard scorecards, reports and self-service analysis tools to make data accessible and easy to analyse
- Implement a transparent process for managing and prioritising requests for BI projects and tasks and track delivery against this
- Identify anomalous, unexpected or noteworthy data, verify its accuracy and raise it to the attention of executive decision makers for discussion and action
- Regularly evaluate and manage individual employee job performance through 1-1 meetings and formal performance reviews, providing constructive suggestions for improvement and rewarding accomplishments
- Define priorities and assign projects for employees- evaluating and matching employee talents to assignments according to the skills and desires of individuals where possible
Experience and skills
You will need to demonstrate experience of the following :
- Developing large-scale corporate databases (> 1m rows) using MS SQL
- Leading significant projects to match, merge, validate and cleanse corporate data
- Building reporting views and subsystems using MS SQL tools, Excel, Sharepoint etc, to deliver regular KPIs, scorecards and OLAP capabilities
- Leading hands-on investigative work to discover, draw out and illustrate significant business trends from underlying data sets
- Working under a structured project management framework
- Data modelling, database design and corporate data mining techniques
- Presenting data in a user-friendly but accessible form
- Assimilating business issues to capture data requirements
Experience of the following is desirable:
- Designing and building data warehouses using techniques based on industry best-practices
- Delivery of corporate and departmental reporting dashboards in an MS Sharepoint Server 2007 environment
- Defining detailed project plans and associated work estimates
- Working with Agile (Scrum) project methodologies for development and testing
- Working in a global organisation with a diverse infrastructure
- Skills in C# .Net development
