Scarcity of Imagination Leads to Anachronistic Campaign Syndrome
Researchers have found that a lack of imagination amongst spammers could cause an acute case of “ACS” (Anachronistic Campaign Syndrome), where a campaign’s angle is woefully out of date and, therefore, intensely boring.
As an example the current wave of Dorf-related spam focuses on a Halloween theme:
NB: Researchers at SophosLabs have confirmed that the executables linked to by the above campaign continue to be detected as Mal/Dorf-F.
Halloween (31st of October) this year has come and gone but its allure lingers as far as the Dorf-spammers are concerned. “Oh dear!”, was the response of one researcher who would prefer to preserve a state of anonymity.
ACS, since its apparent recent discovery, has been the object of some controversy. Some experts have attributed the condition to a combination of a torpid mind and insufficient exercise caused by insatiable financial greed. However, others claim that ACS was dreamt up by an unknown researcher on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
Notwithstanding, the objective conclusion is that the current Dorf campaign is very dull indeed.
