Spammers excel themselves - Part II: A leaf out of a malware manual?
Another day, another flood of pump-n-dump scam attachment spam. We saw the same campaign yesterday using XLS attachments. Today the spammers are sending the same XLS files wrapped within ZIP cocoons.
Using ZIPs to disseminate files by email is a trick often used by malware authors to get through email gateways where executables might get automatically stopped. But then malware authors and spammers are peas from the same perfidious pod.
