Obama worm is not harmless
At the end of last week stories appeared about a new USB aware worm, that displays a picture of President Barack Obama, that has variously been described as toothless , a ‘student prank‘ and ‘mostly harmless‘. There is no such thing as a harmless worm! Malware researchers may describe things as not intentionally malicious but this does not equate to harmless. This is because:
- IT Helpdesk calls costs time and money
- System Cleanup costs time and money
This particular worm, W32/Karab-A, may have no intensionally malicious payload but it will have a cost.
