Throwing the baby out?
Recently, the IWF have been receiving a great deal of press, some good and some neutral. We have blogged about them before (1, 2) and will likely blog about them again.
Sophos and the IWF are partners and as such we report content on the Internet to them regularly. Over the last few days, we have been monitoring a spam campaign which we have reported to the IWF because it falls under their remit. Below is an example from this campaign
Taboo uncensored .Lolita..C.O.L.L.E.C.T.I.O.N..
- high-quality video
- shocking Lolita content
- anonymous surfing

SophosLabs blocked the URIs in this email and reported it to the IWF. This act starts a chain:
- where the IWF verify the content is potentially illegal under UK law
- they then update their lists for ISPs etc to consume
- ISPs (in UK and other countries) block content
- Police action is, possibly, instigated in the country where the URI is registered
This is a good thing, IMHO and we should be wary ‘of throwing the baby out with the bath water’.
