Fake YouTube site points to malware
I’ve JUST blogged about that fancy webpage that tries to install a malicious “codec” on your computer. And, believe it or not, I wanted to finish my post by saying that “I wouldn’t be surprised to see a fake version of YouTube site coming up next”. I removed this sentence before publishing as we try not to give good advice to the bad guys…
So, either this “idea” was too obvious or they’re simply reading my mind :), but here is what’s coming to our spamtraps right now:
The page is planted on a legitimate but compromised website. The spam messages that link to it offer a variety of subject lines and content promoting the videos:
The good news is that we’re still detecting this malware as Troj/Injects-CR. But it is scary to think about how many unprotected users would fall for this trick…
