Simulated BSOD seals the FakeAlert deal
Another week and yet another round of fake AntiVirus software, this time with its own realistic looking crash screen (BSOD).
Not only does this variant replace your desktop wallpaper with a warning that your system is infected (cleaning of course requires a financial outlay), but it also installs a screen saver that generates authentic looking BSODs. Whether this is to carry on the facade of an unstable system due to infection, or to trick the user into rebooting is anyone’s guess.
What next I wonder, installing real malware before they inform you of impending doom – oh wait, they’re already doing that!
