Back in January of last year we reported on a fairly threatening spam campaign in which the spammer, claiming to be a contract killer, offered his victim a chance to escape certain death by — and you’ve probably guessed this already — sending him some US dollars.
Today another very similar variant of this scam emerged, but with one crucial difference: the amount of money being demanded has dropped to less than a quarter of what it was.
Why have the alleged assassins embarked on such generous price cuts? Could it be a lack of gullible targets at the original price of $80,000? A price war with another group of spammers competing in the same market? Perhaps, like everyone else, they’re feeling the effects of the global credit crunch and falling stock prices.
Check back in another year and we’ll find one with the subject line “Buy one not getting shot in the head get one free”.
